We occupy a beautifully refurbished and spacious building on the grounds of The Presidio of San Francisco, just inside the 14th Avenue Gate at Lake Street. Our facility has an adjacent outdoor play area.

Directions To Lone Mountain Children's Center:

The link above gives directions to Lake Street and 14th Avenue. Once you reach 14th Avenue and Lake Street drive North on 14th Avenue into the Presidio. Take a Right at the first Stop sign onto Wedemeyer Street, then the next Left at Brown Street, and then the next Left at Hays Street, (adjacent to a large oval shaped field). Lone Mountain is to the Left of the field, the building has all glass on the lower level.

Our Staff

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Jacque Grillo
Director and Teacher

Jacque is originally from the north shore of Boston and has lived in San Francisco since 1977. He holds a BS degree in Human Development, with a specialty in Early Childhood, from the University of Massachusetts. Jacque also holds an MA in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and California Teaching Credentials. His first teaching job was in a laboratory preschool at Harvard University. Jacque has been at Lone Mountain since 1977. In addition he is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), and for over twenty years has had a private counseling and psychotherapy practice. Jacque has been the school’s Director since 1996.


TEACHERS:

Patty Cotter
Teacher, Tu-Th and M-W-F Classes

Originally from Chicago, Patty attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and received a B.S. in History. After moving to New York City, she worked for three years as an infant teacher at a Bright Horizons. During this time, Patty obtained her M.S. from Brooklyn College in Early Childhood Education. She then became a head teacher in a preschool class at The Olive Treehouse Group. Patty lived and worked in Brooklyn until her relocation to San Francisco in 2014. This is Patty’s third year at Lone Mountain.

Deborah Crosby
Lead Teacher, Pre-K

Deborah’s prior teaching experience includes three years at St. Luke’s Preschool in San Francisco, and fifteen years at the Rosenberg Center, a full-day, full-year program, where she was the Pre-K teacher and interim Director for a year. Deborah has taught at Lone Mountain for seventeen years. Deborah offers a weekly pre-academics program in the Pre-K Class.
 
Cissy Harris
Floating Teacher, All Classes

Cissy holds a BA degree from UC Berkeley in Art and History, and an Elementary Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University. She has taught previously in public and private schools in Marin and San Francisco. Cissy has taught at Lone Mountain since 1987. Cissy also offers programs in French and Drama to the Pre-K class.

Evalynna Ho
Teacher, Tu-Th and M-W-F Classes

Evalynna has a BA in Art History from UC Santa Barbara and has taken several child development classes to deepen her knowledge in the early childhood education field. She taught at St. James Preschool for 7 years and has spent the last 3 years being a substitute teacher at St. James Preschool, Star of the Sea Preschool and the Little School. She also taught a fitness class for young children and their caretakers. Before working with preschoolers, she worked in digital creative services, software development and fine art auctioning. This is Evalynna’s first year at Lone Mountain.

Sophia Lau Kayasone
Teacher, Tu-Th Class and part-time Admin Assistant

Sophia attended San Jose State University and graduated with a BA in Child and Adolescent Development in May 2005. As a student at SJSU she worked as an assistant teacher at their Child Development Center. Before coming to Lone Mountain Sophia worked as a team teacher at Marin Day Schools/Bright Horizons in Foster City. Sophia has been at Lone Mountain for ten years.

Laura Maxwell
Teacher, Pre-K Class

Laura grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.   She attended UNC Chapel Hill and received her B.A. in Psychology in 2011. During her undergraduate studies, she began to substitute teach at a local cooperative preschool where she taught full time after graduating. For the past three years she taught at Calvary Nursery School while pursuing her graduate degree from San Francisco State University. She was awarded her M.A. In Early Childhood Education in 2015 and this is her first year at Lone Mountain.

Rosemary Medeiros
Teacher, Tu-Th and M-W-F Classes

Rosemary is originally from Winchester, Virginia. She moved to San Francisco in 2003 and attended SFSU receiving her BA in Broadcasting. Rosemary has been working with young children for five years, including two years as a teacher at Little Wonders Montessori Too. Rosemary loves music and enjoys playing guitar. This is her fourth year at Lone Mountain.

Maria Picar
Lead Teacher, Tu-Th and M-W-F Classes

Maria holds a Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in Physical Education with a dance emphasis and has owned her own studio, Ingleside Creative Arts and After School Program, “The Arts Connection” for over ten years. She has worked as an After School Coordinator for International Studies Academy High School in San Francisco, a reading Instructor for Mission Learning Center at Sanchez Elementary and at Bright Horizons Day Care Center. Maria was a teaching assistant at Lone Mountain from 1997-2003 and returned to Lone Mountain in 2007 as a full time teacher. Maria offers a once-weekly yoga class in the Pre-K class.

Ella Siebel
Teacher, Pre-K Class

Ella was born and raised in Lawrence, KS and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Life, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from the University of Kansas in 2005. She started her teaching career as an assistant at a small Montessori preschool in Lawrence and eventually became the lead teacher of her own classroom. She stayed in this position for six years, before going back to school and earning a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. This is her fourth year at Lone Mountain. Ella teaches a weekly Pre-K class in pre-academics.

Shaun Spring
Teacher, Pre-K Class

Shaun was born in Honolulu and was raised in San Jose. He attended San Francisco State University and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in History. Shaun has completed a number of child development classes and continues to take more classes to strengthen his skills as a teacher. Shaun has taught at The Stonestown Family YMCA summer camp, as an associate teacher for the YMCA preschool, and as an after school teacher at Commodore Sloat Elementary School. Before coming to Lone Mountain Shaun taught at Marin Day Schools/Bright Horizons Sherith Israel Campus in a class of 3-4 year olds. This is Shaun’s fourth year at Lone Mountain. Shaun teaches a weekly Pre-K class in pre-math.


TEACHING SPECIALISTS:

Coach Steve Priest, Playball San Francisco
Outdoor Sports Program, Pre-K Class

Coach Steve is the Head Coach and Manager of Playball San Francisco and teaches at over 12 preschools in the city. Coach Steve grew up and attended school in Chicago focusing on Kinesiology.  His background includes instruction in multiple youth programs and camps focusing on basketball, baseball, swimming and many other activities.  Dee Dee Bundy is the owner of Playball San Francisco which teaches the basic skills for six different sports including soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and tennis. The program is non-competitive in nature and emphasizes the importance of life skills such as courage, flexibility and persistence. This is Playball’s fourth year at Lone Mountain.

Marci Briskin, My Gym Children's Fitness Center
Gymnastics Teacher, M-W-F Class

Marci Briskin is the owner of My Gym Children's Fitness Center. She holds a BA from University of Wisconsin. She opened My Gym Children’s Fitness Center seven years ago. Marci has offered weekly movement instruction at Lone Mountain since 2011.

Shun Shifu Eric Mitchell
Martial Arts Instructor, Pre-K Class

Shun Shifu Eric Mitchell began his martial arts training at the age of 10 and discovered his passion for the art of Kung Fu. This combination of passion and commitment to traditional Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Tai Chi, self-defense) is demonstrated in his adherence to teaching for the benefit of his students of all ages. Shun Shifu Eric Mitchell is in his third year at Lone Mountain.

Hilary Palanza
Dance Instruction, Pre-K Class 

Hilary graduated from Colorado College in 2006 with a Bachelors degree in Dance. She has danced professionally and performed for David Herrera Performance Company, Epiphany Productions and RAW Dance. Hilary directs her own dance company, Palanza Dance, which began in 2009. She also owns and directs her own dance school, Children's Center for Dance, in the Presidio. This is Hilary’s fourth year at Lone Mountain.

Andrew Skewes-Cox
Music Teacher, M-W-F and Pre-K Classes

Andrew is a native San Franciscan. In 2006 he earned his degree in Music from the University of California Santa Cruz. He has been teaching music in the Bay Area ever since. In addition to being a children's entertainer, Andrew plays drums in the local rock group Rin Tin Tiger. This is Andrew's ninth year at Lone Mountain.

Tree Frog Treks
Science Instruction, Pre-K Class

Tree Frog Treks teaches fun interactive in-school science enrichment programs that introduce kids to concepts in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and natural history. Tree Frog Treks allows children to meet live reptiles and amphibians face-to-face. The themed curriculum cover integrated science topics and reinforces learning through hands-on science experiments, art projects, movement and song. All the Tree Frog Treks lead teachers have college degrees, many have Master's degrees, and all have been thoroughly trained in the curriculum and how to introduce children to live reptiles and amphibians. This is Tree Frog Treks fourth year at Lone Mountain.
