Community & Activities
The vibrant community makes the Lone Mountain experience special for children and parents alike.
Parent Volunteering
In the classroom, parent involvement is entirely optional and can be as casual or as structured as families wish. Some parents enjoy occasionally staying after drop-off to join morning meetings filled with songs, dance, and stories, while some others prefer to volunteer during special activities—whether it's supporting a cooking project, helping with a classroom holiday celebration, or sharing meaningful aspects of their family’s cultural traditions during a class time meeting. Parents are always welcome, and also never obliged.
Parent Events
Throughout the year, Lone Mountain parents come together for a variety of fun and spirited evening events—from pickleball tournaments to classic bingo nights. A favorite tradition is the annual Wine & Cheese Night, hosted to foster connection between families and staff. These gatherings help parents build meaningful relationships and strengthen the proverbial village it takes to raise our children.
Below are just a few special highlights of some recent activities that capture the spirit and joy of the Lone Mountain experience.
-
Class Camping Trips
Each year, the Pre-K class embarks on a much-anticipated local camping trip. The evening begins with a potluck-style dinner under the trees, followed by s’mores and stories around a glowing campfire. Some families pitch tents and spend the night under the stars, while others choose to return to the city.
-
The Bike to School Tradition
Students mark the culmination of their preschool journey with a beloved tradition: biking and scooting together as a class from the start of Lake Street to the school on the final day. With streets lined by cheering families, this joyful ride is more than a celebration — it’s a powerful symbol of growth, community, and the end of a magical chapter.
-
The LMCC Tee Ball Team
Each year, a few Lone Mountain parents volunteer to coach a tee ball team for the class in the San Francisco Youth League—offering the children a fun, positive, and low-pressure introduction to organized sports. The experience is full of joy, teamwork, wobbly home runs, and lots of Big League Chew.

Extracurricular Activities
On non-school days and after school, room parents organize optional, private, local classes like Martial Arts, Soccer, Ballet, Gymnastics, Golden Gate Art & Nature, and Adventure Camp. While these programs are not formally endorsed by or affiliated with Lone Mountain, they offer children additional opportunities to grow, explore, and connect with classmates outside of school.
