Core Elements of Our Educational Experience
Curriculum
Each of our three classes is built around developmentally appropriate projects and themes. Units such as community helpers, the human body, holidays, and dinosaurs are explored through a dynamic blend of direct instruction and immersive, hands-on experiences. The teacher-led approach is balanced with ample opportunity for independent play and exploration. Children enjoy rich opportunities in art, music, and creative movement, as well as generous outdoor time.
Social Emotional Learning
Social Emotional Learning is woven into daily routines through consistent expectations, collaborative play, and open communication, with a focus on helping children learn to express their needs, form friendships and develop confidence. Teachers prioritize building trust and rapport with each child from the very first days of school, helping them acclimate at their own pace and ensuring a sense of safety and belonging.
Teachers
All of our teachers are highly educated and deeply experienced in early childhood education. With an average student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1, they are uniquely positioned to truly know, support, and nurture each individual child. In addition to our core teaching staff, children benefit from visits by subject specialists and engaging guest educators—ranging from Conservatory musicians to local firefighters—who bring learning to life in meaningful, memorable ways.
Communication
Parents receive detailed developmental narratives each semester—complete with personalized goals—prior to their parent-teacher conferences. Weekly newsletters provide photos and updates that capture what students are learning and experiencing, while a monthly bulletin from the Executive Director offers insights into classroom themes, upcoming activities, and reflections on school life.
Class Performances
Families are invited to attend three seasonal performances presented by their child’s class. These festive events allow students to showcase the songs and dances they’ve mastered, while building confidence in a warm, supportive setting. Following each performance (in Fall, Winter & Spring), families gather for a shared potluck lunch on campus. These milestone moments are a treasured part of the school year, strengthening community bonds while celebrating many cultural traditions and the passing of seasons.
Kindergarten Support
Our curriculum and approach ensure that students are confidently kindergarten ready and well-prepared for K admissions assessments. Our Executive Director offers seasoned guidance throughout the application process, meeting with parents three times for step-by-step support and personalized advice. Lone Mountain graduates go on to thrive at top schools, including Town, Hamlin, Cathedral, Burke’s, Marin Country Day, Convent, Stuart Hall, San Francisco Day, Nueva, Mt. Tam, and more.
